My name is Cozette Stovall
but please call me Cozy.
PATIENCE. EXPERIENCE. DILIGENCE
I have been a family law paralegal for the past 20 years. I also have been a legal assistant/secretary for the 7 years prior to that, giving me a total of 27 years in the game. I have now branched out to be an independent financial paralegal. I am doing this because I feel that there are so many firms out there that just need some extra help because their paralegals are overworked, or your firm is not in a position at this time to hire a full-time paralegal, which is perfectly understandable. I am here to help, to lend that extra hand or in some cases, a second set of eyes.
You would only hire me for projects/assignments that you need help with, including drafting, completing and client communications as to the financial affidavits, reviewing and/or comparing opposing parties’ financial affidavits, organization of discovery documents, preparation of discovery request and response, subpoena, dissipation charts and balance sheets, just to name a few… As we all know discovery can be complicated, but being organized and ready for trial, hearing, mediation or just a simple client conference is key to a success resolution or settlement.
There is so much more I can help you with and as an independent paralegal, I am not an employee, so you do not have to pay any employment insurance, any benefits, lunches, vacation/sick time, Federal/ State taxes, or any overhead for me being in your office. You are only responsible for paying for the time that it took me to complete the project/assignments.
Basically, your client will pay for my service. Example: I billed for one hour of my service, which costed $90.00, but per your retainer, paralegal service charged to the client is at a rate of $190.00 per hour, you now just made a profit of $100.00. I was paid $90.00, and you were paid $100.00, with the client feeling a little bit more at eased that his or her bill is not so high because the lawyers are billing for time at a much higher rate for something that does not necessarily have to be charged so high. So again, with you not paying all of those other expenses you would normally have to pay for a full-time paralegal, the $100.00 is all profit, plus you can charge for your time reviewing the work. Please note that even through I am not considered your employee, I will still consider our work relationship as a “Team work”.
